Government Official Confirms MoD Looking at Potential Threat from Vehicles from China, as Personnel Advised to Refrain from Confidential Discussions in Vehicles.

A defence minister has stated that the Ministry of Defence is actively investigating the potential threats posed by Chinese vehicles, and personnel have been instructed to avoid talking about classified matters in all cars.

Safety Guidance for MoD Personnel

In a recently aired appearance on LBC, Luke Pollard commented on claims that MoD officials have been instructed not to discuss classified information while riding in Chinese cars.

He explained that the ministry is “examining” cars from China within its vehicle pools, however emphasised that safety is a issue in every contemporary vehicles.

We have a collection of thousands of vehicles in the MoD and Chinese ones account for a tiny fraction.
However regardless of if you’re driving a Chinese car or a non-Chinese car, our instruction to our staff is not to plug MoD technology into their vehicle, not to have discussions at a classified classification in any vehicle, due to the growing risks of eavesdropping that are present in every single vehicle, to only have those secret talks in protected areas. That’s a wise and sensible thing for anyone concerned about security.

After it was suggested that it would be wise for the ministry to cease using all cars from China, the minister replied: ‘That’s exactly what we are looking into at the present time.”

Wider Security Context

This revelation comes as claims from Scandinavian countries have warned the United Kingdom to the existence of multi-purpose kill switches in Chinese buses, which could enable China to disable public transport and cause disruption to transport systems.

Additionally, a Russian intelligence vessel was reportedly directing laser beams at RAF aircrew, labeled a “extremely risky” action by defence officials.

The broader security environment highlights the significance of strong measures and caution in all areas of government operations, including vehicle usage to communication habits.
