Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hard surfaces

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev won his first trophy for 882 days with a win over Corentin Moutet in the tournament championship match.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has had a challenging year, winning just a single victory at the big events and undergoing a meltdown at the American major.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in particular - resulted in him falling of the world's top 10 and ultimately separating with long-time trainer Cervara.

Presently working with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, he has steadily progressed in the recent weeks - culminating in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over Frenchman Moutet.

It is Medvedev's first trophy after the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard court from that period of the previous year.

The win also means he has won 21 victories at 21 distinct competitions.

"For the first time I have attended a event with my both daughters simultaneously, so to secure a title is especially meaningful," commented tennis professional the champion.

"This championship is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had been defeated in his previous six championship matches, including in the German tournament in the past months.

Medvedev's retrieving approach and frequent outbursts on the playing surface had prompted observers to question if his capacity to perform at the highest level was concluded.

However the player has made changes in recent weeks, striving to approach the net and play assertively, supported by an improved serving game.

The champion recovered from a deficit in the first set against the difficult opponent, taking 4 of the final five points to go ahead.

The competitors swapped breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, striving for his initial ATP Tour championship, seized the initiative to create a third set.

Moutet saved 4 initial chances in a tight final set before the Russian broke to that score to serve for the match.

Suitably, the winner clinched victory with a rally at the net area, with Moutet failing to manage a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
